Trisha Paytas vs Ethan Klein: Frenemies Fallout, Production Dispute and Family Breakdown
The relationship between Trisha Paytas and Ethan Klein moved from a 2019 public feud to a successful collaborative podcast and then to a prolonged breakup. Their original dispute began when Klein mocked Paytas's edited photos in Instagram vs Reality and Paytas accused him of harmful body-shaming. Direct H3 appearances eventually turned the antagonism into a working relationship. Paytas then began dating Hila Klein's brother Moses Hacmon, creating a family connection. Ethan and Hila Klein vs Matt Hoss: Copyright Claim, Fair Use Lawsuit and Court Victory
The conflict began after Ethan and Hila Klein published The Big, The BOLD, The Beautiful on February 15, 2016, a nearly fourteen-minute reaction and criticism video about Matt Hosseinzadeh's 2013 skit Bold Guy vs Parkour Girl. Hosseinzadeh threatened legal action, submitted a DMCA takedown notice on April 23, 2016 and filed a federal copyright action three days later after the Kleins challenged the takedown. The Kleins publicly announced the lawsuit in We're Being Sued on May 24, prompting a Philip DeFranco defense fundraiser that ultimately recorded $170,765 and the creation of the Fair Use Protection Account. Hosseinzadeh later added DMCA misrepresentation and defamation claims and publicly defended his lawsuit. On August 23, 2017, Judge Katherine B. Forrest granted summary judgment to Ethan and Hila on all claims, holding that their specific reaction video was fair use, dismissing the counter-notice claim and ruling that the challenged lawsuit commentary was either protected opinion or substantially true. The court explicitly cautioned that it was not declaring all reaction videos fair use. Hosseinzadeh's attorney criticized the result, but no later reversal was identified. The Ethan Klein-Keemstar feud developed over several years rather than beginning with Content Nuke. Keemstar was reported among creators who supported the Kleins' legal defense fund in 2016 and appeared as an H3 Podcast guest in 2017. The first clear public rupture followed the September 2017 PewDiePie controversy, when Ethan attacked Keemstar and Scarce during a drunken podcast rant and later apologized. Keemstar renewed criticism in 2018. The conflict escalated dramatically in April and May 2020 after Keemstar raised allegations about H3's Fair Use Protection Account and PAYDAY 2 DLC revenue. Ethan answered with Content Nuke, accusing Keemstar of a long pattern of false accusations, harassment, doxxing and harmful treatment of other creators, including discussion of Keemstar's past interactions with Etika. Keemstar disputed the framing, accused Ethan of removing context and hypocrisy, and issued two major response videos. The dispute then expanded into sponsor pressure, with Keemstar's G Fuel relationship ending and Old Spice reportedly ending its H3 sponsorship amid retaliatory campaigns.
